The Investigations Division is a specialized unit comprised of three integrated sections. The division responsibilities include: Evidence, Criminal Investigations and Professional Standards. The Investigation Division is committed to providing professional investigative services and support for the Liberal community and neighboring law enforcement agencies.

DETECTIVE SECTION
The largest of these three sections, Criminal Investigations, with four detectives and one detective sergeant, provides a full range of investigative services by investigating criminal cases involving narcotics violations, crimes against persons and crimes against society. Its primary function is to provide support to the Operations Division. By relieving the officers of some of the more in-depth and time-consuming investigations, officers are able to focus primarily on immediate action situations.

EVIDENCE
Two evidence technicians oversee the Property and Evidence Management Section. Their responsibilities are to ensure the proper handling of all property/evidence that is brought into the custody of the police department. Whether it is to be later used in court on a criminal case, or stored for safekeeping, they safeguard all property in accordance with state law. They have expertise in crime scene processing and are utilized on major cases to aid in the investigation.

PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
One officer at the rank of Lieutenant mans the Professional Standards Section. The single most important function of this section is to ensure the department and its personnel maintain high professional standards of operations and conduct, as has become expected throughout the law enforcement industry. This lieutenant conducts unbiased investigations into allegations lodged against the department and its officers, ensures compliance with department policy, makes recommendations for policy updates and oversees disciplinary review boards.
