Under
the Command of Captain Terry Lewis, the Operations Division
is the largest of the three divisions within the Liberal Police
Department. The division responsibilities include: Patrol, Training
Unit, Animal Control/Community Service and Bike Unit. Operation
Division is responsible for the daily operation of providing Police
Service to the Citizen such as call response, traffic enforcement
and special event planning.
PATROL OPERATIONS
Patrol is composed of four Watches, with each Watch consisting
of one Sergeant, one Corporal and at least three Officers. Each
Watch works a 12 hour tour of duty, with only one Watch on duty
at time. Available twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week,
Patrol performs the primary police function of first responders,
often taking immediate action to safe guard the citizens of Liberal.
Patrol may then have the responsibility of following through with
the situation to reach a successful conclusion unless it is turned
over to a specialized unit.
TRAINING
Training Unit is under
the direction supervision of Lt. Mulanax, who with the aid of
the Certified Police Instruction within the department conducts
on going in service training for all officers and employees of
the Liberal Police Department.
ANIMAL
CONTROL
Animal Control/Community
Service is composed of two-uniformed civilian employee, whose
main duties are the enforcement of both City Code and State Status
governing the ownership and treatment of animals. Animal Control/Community
Service also provides educational service to the public on animal
ownership as well as conducting Motor Vehicle Examination Program.
BIKE PATROL
Bike Unit is
currently a collateral duty assignment for Officers that is used
during special event or task force assignments
RESERVE OFFICER PROGRAM
Reserve officers are volunteer officers who assist the police
department in providing services for special events, critical
incidents, security and patrol.
